AEDC explains new tariff to residents in FCT
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC, Gwagwalada area office, has embarked on sensitization rally for its consumers and stakeholders on the new tariff.
The area manager, Engr Ahmad Baro in an address at the event titled, “Customer enlightenment forum on increase in tariff,” said the increase was aimed at ensuring that the company fully metered their consumers and eliminate ‘crazy’ billing within the shortest possible time.
Baro said though the rate comes with hike in energy charges, all electricity consumers, residential as well as commercial, will no longer pay fixed charges.
He said due to increase in power consumption and customer population it would help service the area better.
“Before the power stability was about N56m with a collection of about N28m. The billing as at January, this year is about N113, 122,550.40 and the collection is N82.8m.”
According to him, the DISCO, GENSCO Company has been privatized which made electricity not to be a social service as it was obtainable in the past.
“As a result of the privatization, the current management of AEDC is expected to pay for every kilowatt hour, KWH, of electricity delivered.”
Baro said the tariff will meet up the numerous investments that are needed to achieve a health and balanced network.
