FCTA intensifies work on Karshi-Ara-Apo road

Ahead of the rainy season, the pace of work has increased on the Karshi-Ara-Apo road project even as it was learnt that the project may be completed before the end of the rainy season.

Our correspondent gathered that the pace of work at the site might not be unconnected with the on-the-spot assessment of the road project by the FCT minister, Malam Muhammad Bello, a couple of months ago.

The minister had during the visit promised to give priority to the quick completion of the road project by readily making payments as when due, as it was also ascertained during the visit that the road project, which is being constructed by Kakatar CE, had already achieved over 52 percent completion.

Kakatar is working on the two phases of the Karshi-Ara/Apo road project namely: Karshi – Ara (25.60km) and Karshi – Apo (13.25km) and the contractor has made much progress when our correspondent visited the site last week.

One of the engineers on site, Engr. Ezekiel Panan, who spoke to our correspondent said, “we are avowedly committed to the delivery of quality jobs to all our clients, and that is what we are doing on this road. As you can see, we are working on this road from at least three different sections.

2We have deployed more equipment and personnel to the project. As of now, we have done stone base on several areas of the road and we will pour asphalt on them in the next few days.”

It was also gathered that a critical section of the road project attracting the attention of the contractor is the huge hill measuring about 50metres high, even as it was observed that contractor’s bulldozers are busy cutting the hill to ground level for the road to go through.

Our correspondent also learnt that the FCT Minister is yet to award the contract for the critical portion of road between Apo Mechanic Village road and the Karshi-Apo road at Takwushara Junction which, when completed, would enable motorists assess the Karshi-Ara-Apo road, just as the critical section has been captured in the 2016 budget.
