Ex-Eagles defender, Okpara, blames wife for football woes
Former Super Eagles defender Godwin Okpara has blamed his wife, Linda, for the troubles he had in France, which led to his incarceration for seven years.
In an interview weekend, the Owerri Imo state born footballer said his wife used his name without notifying him in doing human trafficking.
"In fact there were two ladies she brought to Europe, one was Tina and the other was Evelyn, she used my surname to process their passports, thereby linking them as my relations.
"Later she had issues with Tina, and Tina departed to America. My wife ran to America and stirred up a case with Tina, her intention was to take over all my properties when I'm clamped behind bars for forgery she had earlier committed, but the case took another dimension.
"Unknown to me, she withdrew all the money in our joint account and procured a property in her maiden name Linda Olanipekun.”
He continued saying that his house in France was confiscated and account frozen by the government, but that he has engaged the services of legal firms both here in Nigeria and France to ensure that part of the money, which he said is a big sum is released to him.
