NUT to support government on teachers training

The chairman of Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, in the Federal Capital Territory chapter, Comrade Stephen Knabayi, has reiterated the commitment of the union towards supporting government in the area of training and re-training of teachers.

He disclosed this recently in a chat with our correspondent in Gwagwalada, noting that

government and various stakeholders in education sector need to provide necessary facilities for the conduct of electronic teaching aimed at enhancing quality of teaching.

The NUT chairman called on those wishing to join teaching to acquire required teaching qualifications, just as he reiterated the position of the union against recruitment of quack teachers, noting that any person employed to teach must possess basic teaching qualifications.

He implored the FCT administration as a matter of importance to solve the challenges being faced by staff of the Local Education Authority, LEA, in delay of payment of their salaries, even as he called on the chairmen of the six area councils to pay teachers their promotion entitlements as at when due.

The NUT boss warned members against indolence and lack of commitment urging them to show dedication to their primary assignments with a view to improving the standard of education in the territory.
