Abuja Catholic Archbishop wants FG to review land policy

The Cardinal Archbishop of Abuja Catholic Archdiocese, His Eminence, Rev Dr John Onaiyekan, has urged the federal government to review its policy on land so as to facilitate the housing policy in the country.

Onaiyekan considered it an irony that the government which should through its policies be at the forefront of making houses available to the people, is almost the biggest obstacle to the development of shelter for the poor.

The Catholic clergyman lamented that by the time one finds out how much the government is asking people to pay for land, they will not have enough money to build the house after paying for the land thereby making it look as if the housing policy is designed to favour the rich only.

He said the greater irony is that the land, by virtue of the Land Use Act, was acquired from the real land owners almost without costs.
