SDS orders security at orphanage homes
Secretary of Social Development Secretariat, SDS, Mr. Oladimeje Ali-Hassan, has ordered the fortification of orphanage homes in the territory following the sudden disappearance and re-arrest of a 14 year old boy from Gwako orphanage home in Gwagwalada area council.
The secretary, who gave the name of the boy as Moses Audi and from Kaduna state, revealed that police effort resulted in the rescue of the boy.
Hassan, also revealed that the teen, who was brought to the secretariat by the police on March 13, 2018, suddenly disappeared on March 28, 2018 from Gwako orphanage home after 15 days, just as he commended the police for the swift response leading to the rescue of the boy.
According to him, "the boy in question was identified by the police as Moses Audi, a 14 years old boy who hailed from Kaduna. The secretariat took custody of the boy as part of its mandate on that same day and took him to Gwako orphanage home. Two weeks after, the coordinator of the home reported that the boy has escaped from the home with some cash and valuable items.
"From the reports available, it is very clear that the street boy escaped because of the regimented nature of the home and he has records of criminal tendencies. But I want to express my satisfaction that the police acted swiftly and he has been fished out. I have also ordered for security to be beefed up in all our orphanage homes in the territory".
The secretary also tasked coordinators of orphanage homes to be more vigilant in the discharge of their duties.
