GLO/CAF Awards Holds In Abuja Thursday, Soccer Stars Storm Abuja
The 24th edition of the GLO-CAF gala and awards night will be held at the prestigious International Conference Centre, Abuja.
The event which is billed to attract those in the mainstream of the continent's football will kick off by 7pm Nigeria time.
Amongst those nominated for the prestigious African Footballer of the Year (male) include; Andre Ayew (Ghana/Swansea), Pierre Emerick Aubameyang (Gabon/Borussia Dortmund) and Yaya Toure (Cote d'Ivore and Manchester city), a player who has won the award for a record four times consecutively.
In the female category, Gabrielle Onguene (Cameroon), Ngozi Ebere (Nigeria), N'rehy Tiane (Cote d'Ivoire) and Porta Doakye of Ghana will be vying for the coveted award.
The coach of the year position will be contested for by Emmanuel Amuneke (U17 Nigeria) Fawozi Benzarti (Etoile de Sahel Tunisia) Herve Renard (Cote d'Ivoire) and Patrice Cartem T.P Mazembe of Congo.
Our correspondent gathered that Aubameyang of Gabon, who soccer pundits believe may win the coveted male award, and Herve Renard who coached Zambia to victory in the 2012 African Nations Cup, have all arrived Abuja, while others are expected later in the day.
The event will be anchored by Ghanaian actress Juliet Ibrahim and super sports presenter Robert Marawa.
