Kwali conducts screening exercise for teachers

The Local Education Authority, LEA, in Kwali Area Council has conducted screening exercise for newly employed teachers with a view to augmenting the shortage of manpower in the schools.

Speaking to the teachers, the LEA secretary, Mr. Peter Philips, tasked them to show commitment and dedication to their duties.

He enjoined the employees to regard themselves as lucky, noting that thousands of youths are roaming the streets with equivalent certificates without jobs, while encouraging them to face their primary assignments diligently and avoid things that were contrary to their contract of engagement.

The Kwali scribe assured them that his leadership would provide incentives to build their capacity through training and re-training, even as he warned that punitive measures would be taken against erring teachers.

The education secretary lauded the chairman of the council for taking giant steps to provide employment opportunities to residents despite shortage of funds, even as he implored him to continue to give priority attention to the development of basic education in the council.
