Ramadan: Youth group fetes IDPs at Durumi camp
As part of efforts to show love to the less privileged during Ramadan, some philanthropic youths have distributed assorted food items and drinks to Internally Displaced Persons, IDPs, at the Durumi camp.
During the occasion, spokesperson of the group, Miss Mariam Oufade, disclosed that the idea was conceptualized two years ago by her cousin Oreoluwa Adeola and friends, adding that the maiden edition was launched during last year's Ramadan celebration.
Mariam said the group of friends is not a registered organization but only trying to give back to the society.
According to her, many people have reached out to the group for this year's donations through their social media contacts to donate to kids in various orphanages in Abuja.
"The experience has been great so far. These kids lost their homes and some of their parents to Boko Haram, they now stay at the Gwoza and Boma Internally Displaced Persons camps in Durumi, Abuja.
"It's been such a wonderful experience. I 'm always excited to go to their camps every evening to drop food for the kids because of the smiles we put on their faces," she stated.
Speaking on behalf of the IDPs, secretary of the camp, Bala Yusuf, expressed delight for the gesture, while describing this year's Ramanda celebration as very rewarding since the existence of the camp.
