NURTW not responsible for Udu park killings – chairman
Chairman, Delta State Council of National Union of Road Transport Workers, NURTW, Chief Ifeanyi Obi, has condemned the killings of people in Udu garage but dissociated his union.
The deaths were as a result of power tussle between members of Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, RTEAN.
Obi, who reacted to the killings, maintained that people died as a result of power tussle between Comrade Elvis Kporroh and members of his union, RTEAN.
He said, “members of NURTW were not involved in the power tussle, from beginning, we knew that their interest is to destabilize the state, unfortunately, they were only encouraged to operate in Udu local government area by the council chairman.
“We were surprised to get series of calls from our colleagues in different parts of the country based on newspaper reports that people were killed over disputes in Udu garage, whereas such was being managed by the council”.
He stated that the “NURTW in Delta State is very peaceful, there is no problem in any part of our Union in the state, our Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has done all that he can for us to have a peaceful and progressive state, so, it is very sad that RTEAN crisis degenerate to situation people died”.
According to him, “RTEAN was banned by the Delta state government in 2017 but, the Udu council recognized them which made them to be operating solely in udu local government area, appealing to the chairman to execute the order of the state government banning the operation of RTEAN.
