SSANU denies existence of factions in UniAbuja
The newly elected chairman of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, SSANU, University of Abuja chapter, Khadijat Umar, has denied the existence of faction in the university.
She made the declaration shortly after he emerged as the newly elected chairman of the union in a keenly contested election, stressing that what happened was the refusal of the previous executive members that were suspended by the management in forestall tenure elongation.
Speaking to The Abuja Inquirer, Umar revealed that prior to the election, the management constituted an interim committee to replace the suspended members which conducted the affairs of the union in the last one and half year before handing over to the new executive.
She reiterated the commitment of the new leadership to carry all members along and operate an all-inclusive administration with a view to moving the union to a greater heights, just as she solicited the support and cooperation of members of union.
She also assured that she would look into the welfare of members, challenges of SSANU members rising to level 15 and accessing the Federal Ministry of Housing loan for the benefit of members as well as establishing cordial working relationship with the management.
Earlier, the chairman interim committee, Comrade Hassan Shalangwa, who expressed joy over the successful conduct of the elections, noted that the transition programme went smoothly without hitches, even as he tasked the new exco to build from the legacies left behind and called on contestants who lost to support the winners for the overall interest of members of the union.
Other elected members include vice chairman, Mr. Ademola Yusuf; secretary, Mr. Suleiman Abaje and assistant secretary, Mr. Thomas Tyem; treasurer, Mrs. Mary Adenye.
