Abuja chamber honours Dangote, Olam, others

The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry, ACCI, has nominated Dangote cement for its prestigious excellence award of Outstanding Company of the Year (Industry), for its contribution to growth of Nigerian economy.

President of the ACCI, Mr. Tony Ejinkeonye, also revealed that individuals and other corporate bodies will be rewarded for their efforts towards the growth of the economy.

Addressing journalists in Abuja last week, Ejinkeonye said that this year’s theme: "Promoting the Spirit of Excellence", is being organized to celebrate outstanding organizations that have contributed to the growth of the national economy even in the face of the economic downturn being experienced as a result of low oil prices.

"Our goals for this year's award are multidimensional. As stated earlier, the awards will recognise the achievements of the winners. We would also use it as a platform to encourage other organisations to emulate the winner's resilience and ability to face the predicted slowing economic growth not with despair but with renewed enthusiasm, powered by innovation and reinvigorated business ideas.

"It is our desire as well, to use the awards as an avenue to express the chamber's support of the Federal Government's push to diversify Nigeria's economic base and to shift attention away from crude oil," Ejinkeonye affirmed.

Others to be honoured include Olam Nigeria Limited, Nigeria LNG Ltd, Helios Investment Partners and the Vitol Group as well as Airtel Nigeria.
