Sheriff: A crown in turbulence
Senator Ali Sheriff, SAS, is master of the power game. Last week, the controversial former governor of Borno state emerged as the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, in a move that took the sail off some political pundits and party faithful.
A political voyeur, Sheriff has always been in the thick of power play whether in the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP, or his short term romance with the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Since his emergence to complete the tenure of the North East for the next two years or so, there have been conflicting signals from some top members of the PDP.
While some have indicated their displeasure and have even composed a dirge for the party, they are others who say Sheriff fits in to the Almajari dialectics of the ruling APC.
Whichever way the new national chairman looks at it, he needs to fashion out means to get the backing of those who are up in arms against his emergence if he is to counteract the prognosis of doom.
As it is now, Sheriff has a crown fashioned in turbulence but can he like the Eagle give wings to the PDP to find its’ bearing again? Time, like it is always said, will tell.
