Siasia wants NFF to suspend league over Egypt clash
Interim coach of the Super Eagles, Samson Siasia, has appealed to the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, to reschedule some Nigeria premier league matches prior to the all-important clash between the Eagles and Pharaohs of Egypt later this month.
Siasia, who spoke to journalists at the NFF secretariat, Abuja, during the unveiling of his 42 man list of players, said that if his request is granted, it will enable the players to concentrate and also avail him the opportunity to drill and get the best players that will represent the country.
According to him; “I will plead with the football federation to give the local league some recess. This will enable me assemble and drill the home based players who will form the nucleus of my team for the matches.
“It will also avail me the opportunity to observe some of the players that will represent the country at the Olympics as some of the home based players are in the under-23 squad.
“Owing to the hot weather condition in the country, sixty percent of our players for the Kaduna encounter shall be home based as some foreign based players may not cope.”
The Eagles coach explained that since his appointment, he has been in contact with most of the foreign players and they have shown their readiness to play for the country in the two important matches.
On the much speculated return of goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama to the team, he said, “I called Vincent some days ago and asked him of the possibility of rejoining the team but he told me that he was not psychologically fit to play for the Eagles for now.
“He said he was badly treated by the former coach, so I had to respect his decision, though I told him that he will be welcomed back whenever he is in the right frame of mind to play for the country.”
