Kabiyesi ’comes of age’

Every position comes with some responsibility that is weighty and bends one’s principles. When the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, Ojaja II, ascended the throne of his fathers’, it was not lost on him that he would be ‘lost’ in tradition.

The Royal Father, who has been happily married with a teenage daughter, thought he had come of age with his better half.

However, with his elevated status with the immense powers and privileges it confers, Ojaja II would have realised that despite all his accomplishments, he was far from coming of age.

Last week, the Ooni’s matrimonial matrix got expanded as he took a new wife, Wuraola Obanor, from Edo State.

The ‎wedding rites, performed in the traditional Benin culture at the residence of the bride on Ewere Street, Etete, in Oredo Local Government Area of the state, has raised questions and tongues wagging as to the propriety of a second wife for a king that is barely 42 years old and when he is a ‘Christian.’

Given that some things simply defy logic, the monarch’s matrimonial expansion could just be one of such things. Kabiyesi ooooh!
